Shabazz Larkin, Co-Founder of Larkin Art & Company

Shabazz Larkin is an American Artist, painter, writer, illustrator, book-maker and product designer. His practice of vandalizing photographs, overwhelming use of color and bold typography, at times feel like visual concepts better suited for the editorial section of Rolling Stone. This technique only veils Larkin’s true intention to explore societal  issues of race, justice and religion. Shabazz is most known for his portraits that capture the beauty of resilience in black culture.

Shabazz has served as the Executive Creative Director over all of Sean Combs’ brands and helped Barack Obama launch his first initiative after leaving the White House.

In 2017, Shabazz moved his family down to Nashville, TN where he has begun documenting accounts of normal people about their encounters with God and posting it up as street art. Meanwhile, back in his studio, he paints portraits of black people in stark black or red skin, a kind of rebellion against the Eurocentric notions of beauty.

Most recently, Shabazz and his wife, Ashley, have turned their attention to building a product design business - Larkin Art & Company, creating children's books, family games and self-care tools that bridge the mindfulness gap for Black, Indeginous and People of Color. Like “Tribe Vibe,” a card game that celebrates the diaspora of Africa and America.
